I think

vacation should be for real vacation and not to give a player more time for thinking.
I have a solution for that.

1) The player (A) is only allowed to set the vacation flag, if he is not to move in all of his games.
=> That is realiced in chess.com
2) If the opposite (B) moves in the vacation time, (A) will not see his move until the vacation time is away.
2a) In 2) (B) has more time to think. So (B) should see the last move of (A) if the the vacation time is away and the normal time begins.
=>What about 2) and 2a) ?

In real chess the players can only go away from the board if the are not at move, and if a game is interrupted one player must put his move in an envelope.

I don't think vacation is used by some players to give them more time for  thinking. What would be the use when we have at least one day per move. I think that people who set the vacation flag are really in vacation.

There is no question people use vacation as a tool when they are playing too many games and do not what to be timed out. There are many instances where my opponents have 1-2 hour vacations multiple times a week. I understand the concept of paying for more vacation and for the auto-vacation feature but I think every time a "Vacation" is used it should count for 24 hours to help move things along and prevent such abuses.

you need time away from everything and everyone when your on vacation.  Georges64 is right I love the game but you have to give your mind and body a rest.  If it abusesed it by some not all, and it's there time anyway. And with that I wish you all a good day.
