What is the difference between "Delete" and "Ban" in the Manage Members tool?

What is the difference between "Delete" and "Ban" in the Manage Members tool if you are a super admin of a group? I have never had to use this in my Funtastic Chessmates group, but I am just wondering, in case I ever do.

Ban means u ban that member.

Delete means u delete that member.

Simple! Cool

I think ban is they cannot come back, and delete is they get kicked out of the group, but they can return...

BananaAl

If you delete someone they are out of the group if you ban then you still have that member in your team they just cannot do anything in the group. Like it show the public profile to them they press join and it says you are allready in the group and they get very confused.

Delete probably means taking out their ACCOUNT completely.

BigOto

Except that this is only within the group, not the whole site.

Jonathan_L399

Ya!!

BananaAl

but if you are banned it still adds a member to the team

No I believe it's for the WHOLE site.

BigOto

Only a whole-site moderator could do that.

BigOto is talking about delete and ban in groups if you are not a super admin or admin in a group you will not know.

DELETE means u are OUT of the group but BAN means u are sacked but u can return.

I never had to use the tool, but I believe deleting someone from the group also deletes his/her content in the group (including notes and forums). Ban probably retains his/her content.

BigOto

We should get a site admin to answer this. I looked in the FAQ's, but I couldn't find anything there, but I don't want to go to member support until I do have to use it.

BananaAl

ask erik or someone

If its a private group;

To "Delete" someone is to remove them from the group so they are no longer a member

To Ban  only, means they can view the group and its contents but cannot participate at all.

When these two actions are done together, it must be "Ban" then "Delete". This prevents them from re-joining the group

If a member is deleted first, they are removed from the members list therefore are no longer there for you to ban them.

These Ban and Delete actions are only applicable for Groups on the site and doesn't affect a members' personal account.

erik

i believe that ban means they cannot even apply to be in your group ever again.

BigOto

That makes more sense. I will tell the admins of Funtastic Chessmates.
