I'm an ex pat living and working in France and whilst i dont miss the rain, I do miss a bit of craic from N Ireland/Ulster/County rubble (6 counties or 9 I don't care). I am relatively new to Chess.com and have discovered only two small groups from the north of Ireland with about 10 or 11 members in each and one group created back in 2007. This really strikes me as strange because irishmen (and i say biasedly ulstermen) are in practically every country in the world. Where is everyone?

Explain this Ulster thing.  Who qualifies as an Ulster person and what are their unique qualities?

Sigmoid_Flexure

Knock knock.

laygnrmac: Sure and who might it be?

Irish.

laygnrmac: Irish who?

Irish for another pint!  (hic!)

An Ulsterman or woman is simply someone from the North of Ireland, in particular from the 9 counties of Ulster. Ireland is separated rightly or wrongly depending on your political view point (which is of no interest to me personally in this forum and not the point in question) into two countries; The Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland (part of the United Kingdom). Both the Goverments claim territorial rights to N Ireland. Ireland further is dived into 4 Provinces Ulster, Munster, Leinster and Connaught. N Ireland is made up of 6 of the 9 counties of Ulster.

Although N Ireland consists of only 6 of the 9 counties of Ulster it is also rightly or wrongly generalised as Ulster depending on the indiviuals political point of view once again.

As for the "unique qualities" - its a good question well presented, I could venture some qualities - butperhaps any Ulstermen or Woman at Chess.com would care to volunteer some? If your out there?

It's true.  It is the one day a year that I can wear my "Kiss me I'm Italian" shirt.
