Who Am I Playing

Hi, late starter and new to this. Learnt the game moves and rules and played on my PC with preinstalled game. Anyway time to play real people and so joined up – basic freebie pack and just interested in playing at my leisure, no big deal and not fussed win or loose. Then I see all the stuff on move analysis, “engines” memorised openings etc, to be honest too much bother for what I want at the moment – the thing is – who am I playing?? (in my first game now, enjoying it and no issues at all with anything that might or might be going on between moves). If all this stuff is being utilised am I still playing a computer?? – I know there are other ways of playing fast stuff and to a finish but does not suit me at the moment. Just curious. Cheers.

Chances of playing someone using a computer program/engine under 2000 are remote.  Good correspondence players do take advantage of their opening book library and database to start the game however and so should you.  Have fun, sounds like you have the right attitude to enjoy the game.
