i'd say garry kasparov.
who the greatest chess player?
either Paul Morphy or Capablanca... they were decades ahead of their peers even bobby fischer said "they were the greatest chess players of all time and if they were around now they would defeat everybody hands down"...

Capablanca was nicknamed "The Chess Machine" because even great players felt he was unbeatable. But, Tal could qualify if only he played more games. He could conjure up sacrifices when no one would even think of them.

i have recently been reading about the cuban jose raul capablanca.
i must say that he was quite impressive.
capablanca kicked ass all over the chess board!
what a player!
i also read about bobby fischer.
he was great also.

This forum thread has a lot of discussion on the issue, plus links to other threads on the subject too:

My choice: Fischer!

As the absolute greatest, I'd choose Kasparov. However, when Fischer still played, he was much better than any other player. He was dominating chess even more than Kasparov did. It's a tough decision but I'll choose Kasparov.
I'm wondering of who is the greatest chess player of all time. Could you guys give me your opinion.
