Why isn't anyone using the best blitz time control 3|2?

It seems to take 10 times as long to find a game at 3|2 then 5|0 even though 3|2 is a far better format.

Is it as I suspect that most of you enjoy being clock playing morons.

I certainly have learned to adapt to 5|0 but why are we not migrating to 3|2?

wanmokewan

If you're going to call us morons I wouldn't want to play you no matter what the time control.

JGambit

interestingly I played you and lost, I am betting you are just the type of person I am talking about.

Sure, I'll give this a fourth post bump so everyone can read it. Laughing

Prudentia

The threat of losing on time makes things more interesting.

wanmokewan

Like I said, if you're going to be rude, I won't play you in the first place. Oh, we played. I won by resignation, not on time.

mrhjornevik

Word of advice. If you want people to Play your format its better to explain why it is better Than takling shit about the people Who dont Play it

JGambit

People are starting to use it it seems.

To mrhjornevik: I could not car less if garbage sub 1000's use 3 2 or not. None of you guys are anywhere close to being able to handle anything less then a 30 minute game.

Of course you also do not have the attention span to be able to play for 30 minutes,

That said your advice does seem to be correct. I think it is obvious why 3|2 is > 5|0 I tend to think that it is what Prudentia said people think that 5|0 is more interesting because you have a chance of winning even when you play horrible moves.

WanderingPuppet

risk getting a long or dead drawn game that uses 5 minutes more time than you want to play.

What??

Anyways I play only speed games on the live chess server; I find that I simply can't concentrate on a screen as well as on a board.

JGambit

that is a cop out, the increment is only 2 seconds. Imo It is worse when people are trying to clock you in a dead drawn opposite colored bishops then when you can use the increment to draw it.

Timing out is part of blitz/bullet strategy

JGambit

I agree that it is part of strategy, When I play 5 minute i try to clock people too. Thats why 3 2 is better

Troll alert!

Train wreck in 5...4...3...

JGambit

I have stopped waiting to get a 3|2.

I've accepted that people like to play the clock and have joined your ranks as a clock playing moron.

Playing on time trouble is more exciting

By the way, the clock is a piece. Neglect it and you lose.

Elubas

I like 3/3 myself. If I was playing a zero increment game I would consider timing out part of the game and plan my usage of time accordingly. But I almost always play blitz with increment to avoid the result being determined by pure speed. I don't have to wait very long to get a game.

And naturally time is still very much a part of the game with increment -- you can gain time, but you have to keep a good pace without messing up which can lead to pretty tense, sometimes prolonged, time scrambles.

Correct.

With increment the clock is still a huge factor it just gets toned down to its proper importance. for instance if you create a good enough position to win on instant moves you can still win even if you had to use a whopping 2 minutes to find the favorable solution.

I hate the clock too. 3|2, 15|10 and other controls with an increment ftw Smile (I don't have energy left to play today, though :p)

JGambit

Just to once again make the point. On reddit chess recently Greg Shahade gets clocked in an obvious drawn position that his opponent was not trying to make progress in. His opponent was an IM and not imune to being a moron.
