Why not delete negative posts?

I often click on an opponent's name to find out all their ratings, best rating, recent history etc. to find out more about who I am playing. Very frequently there are comments posted to their profile from other players. Sometimes the comments are quite negative and inflammatory. Why do I see so many of these comments every day when one can simply delete the comments from their profile pages?  Sometimes comments are months old.  Just curious.

I can understand if you have a ton of negative comments on your profile, you might want to erase them.  I guess most of us don't have so many that it bothers us.

How many did you have before you erased them?   Were any of them justified?

DrSpudnik

Those are hilarious!

I've seen "Immoral Coward" posted on at least 1/3 people I've clicked on, all from the same guy... People are Strange!

"like some young black kid in Philadelphia stealing a car"

Nice.

DrSpudnik

He should post that on someone's wall.

Johnny maybe I got my colors wrong. Remember that movie with Richard Pryor walking in a jail cell saying, "that's right, we're bad"!?. Some chess players want a badge of dishonor to show how "bad" they are.

I only had one so far (but I haven't been here long) and erased it immediately. It wasn't close to justified.

ARChessChamp

Ya... Real class act RJC... too good to post to a players wall, but will spill his pedantic, obtuse, and overtly prejudicial (not to mention nonchess related) comments all over public forums.

I mean. .. I kinda feel bad for anybody stuck in that mental set. I can only speculate on what has been the experience to form the kind of perception espoused in that comment... but I can tell you my own history has been in predominantly Caucasian towns of Oregon. .. and the crime is no less severe. I wouldn't want to blow the man's mind all at once, but there are no shortages of auto theft in this area.

Sossitch

If you don't care what people think of you when you act like a jerk in a game, you won't care what people think of the comments either.

So you're assuming that someone with opinions that you disagree with is somehow living a life that's not as good as yours, and you should feel sorry for them?

johnmusacha

Yes, I second Macer75.

I've only had one negative post on my wall but I left it for awhile because let's face it, who doesn't appreciate a good insult?  Alas the poster is no longer with us.  Apparently not everyone found "Eat poo and die" as amusing as I did.

way to miss the point. Here, let me explain since you're clearly having a rough time with English comprehension. I feel sorry for anyone who has developed negative feelings towards an entire race/creed/gender/sect or group. The man put out a clearly racist and prejudicial comment. My remark was meant to show a modicum of compassion for the process he may have gone thru to get to that ridiculous frame of mind that would allow him to post inflammatory remarks about "blacks." Any road that leads to that kind of thinking is one that must have been rough. If you read that as "I lead a better life" then you're just looking for an online argument. It's either that or you're a racist apologist. Either way, you will be ignored from here on as you and your "I'm with him" cosigner are not worth another keystro

johnmusacha

"not worth another keystro . . ."

I must admit that is pretty clever.

RJC, Macer, and I all have ties to the same little corner of Massachusetts.  So it's natural that we stick up for each other.  So we also know pretentious sanctimony when we see it.  You have no idea what that old man has experienced in life.

blueemu

I wear my negative comments like a badge of pride.

Ivandh called me a troll! Cool ... and I consider him an expert on the subject.
