Why so much rage-quitting?

Maybe it’s just par for the course for online gaming, but I’m a bit taken aback by how often my opponents have just abandoned the game when faced with a losing position. Is it really that much work to select “resign” from the menu (maybe even send a “good game” message if you want to be a mensch)? It seems quite bad manners to just quit and make the other guy wait for chess.com to auto-resign for you

Well, I do the exact opposite... rage continue. I have a bunch of lone king vs pieces stalemate for it, punishing punks who TRY to humiliate me with a pair of queens only to trip over their own pieces. That's why my handle is klingon for "to the death!" and also why I prefer to underpromote to a rook if that's all I need and have time to finish the game.

I was playing a guest game here a couple weeks ago where an opponent "rage won", refusing to continue up a piece until I resigned just to get on to the next game.

I played a game where a punk DEMANDED I resign down material, and when I refused, he abandoned the game and STOLE a win through adjudication.

I have no issue with someone wanting to play out to checkmate. Even a “won” endgame can be tough to close out against a determined opponent sometimes.
