50 moves?!

can someone please make clear to me the ''50 move'' rule in the end game.

example- im playing black, i have only my king left on the board...my opposition plays white and has king and a pawn. now does he have to find checkmate in 50 moves, moving both king and pawn, or does the 50 moves apply to the black king, meaning he may move 50 times to avoid mate?

no its if no pawn move has been made, no pieces have been exchanged and no stalemate or checkmates have been given and 50 moves r over you can claim a draw or if both don't want to they don't have to i think.it can even happen in the mid game.

In a king and pawn vs. king endgame, it's usually nothing to worry about; if you can't make the the pawn move for 50 moves it's bound to be a dead draw anyway. It's more worrisome if you're in an endgame with minor pieces without a pawn, like the king, knight and bishop vs. king. Most positions have forced wins in less than 50 moves with perfect play by both sides, some cannot be won in this timeframe. It's very rare on the board though, and if it happens you can't expect perfect play from both sides except at the very highest level, so the 50 move rule plays a major factor in whether or not the player with the pieces will win.

50 move rule is applicable with certain conditions.

1. No pawn movement,

2. No piece removed.

In your case, better you concentrate on not allowing the pawn to be queened. Before 50-move rule applies, most likely you will hit repeat of 3-position.

You know, you could always look these things up. For example, Wikipedia lists the official FIDE rule.

Fide Laws of Chess rule 9.3:

The game is drawn, upon a correct claim by the player having the move, if
(a) he writes on his scoresheet, and declares to the arbiter his intention to make a move which shall result in the last 50 moves having been made by each player without the movement of any pawn and without the capture of any piece, or
(b) the last 50 consecutive moves have been made by each player without the movement of any pawn and without the capture of any piece.
