apparently Silman's Endgame Course is good. I bought Pandolfini's Endgame Course but the number of typos is extraordinary!
Book recommendation?

Thanks for the suggestion. Popped into a book store and ordered a copy of Silman's. I've looked elsewhere and the reviews are good!
Silman's endgame book is the best! When you become an advanced player (around 2000), I would recommend Dvoretsky's engame manual.
Reuben Fine's Basic Chess Endings (I think is the name, cba to go and check) is *the* work on the endings.
I think BCE has been supplemented by some of the new books which have used computers to check the analysis--Karsten Mueller has a few as does Nunn.
There was a revised algebraic edition of Fine's work that Benko helped on but I was told it had quite a few typos (which I can not confirm)
Silman's book is quite practical and good to read--the Emms book on Rook Endings is excellent as well.

Like Basic Chess Endings, Fundamental Chess Endings is mainly a reference work but you can learn from both if you care to study from them. If you are going to play a lot it's nice to have an endgame reference around.
Silman's is, I guess, more of a teaching book. I've only leafed through it so I'm being cautious about being definitive.
Pandolfini's book might be okay to start with. If your library has a copy check it out and digest it probably pretty quickly. Good basic lessons there. Watch out for the typos.
It may be wise to finish the Pandolfini first, just to test your appetite for this kind of stuff.

Yes, there's a topic about that here.
Though my opening play is fair, my endgame could use a lot of work. I was wondering if anyone could suggest any books on endgame tactics and the like which they have found useful or would recommend. I looked on Amazon but there are so many I didn't know which one to choose! So, any suggestions?
