Is there a name for the situation that's almost a smothered mate except for one flight square, which is attacked by the same knight that delivers mate?
Does every Mate have a name?

Right, I was actually just trying to get people to contribute to a thread which would contain lots of famous mate styles...but it appears there is currently little interest. thanks tonydal. :)

Anastasia's Mate...cool. Is that the only way a knight and rook can mate the king? I guess the little pawn is required too.

there are many way of doing this as long as the knight and rook work together and with a help from another piece like the queen.

As I recall, batgirl has posted some very good stuff on this topic (and much else too) - Legal's Mate, Boden's Mate etc. Have a look at her blogs.
Should that be Legall's or Legal's?

Yes Batgirl did alot of work on mates, here are the links-

I think one of the reasons for that could be this(you will find lots of gems in here)

The Philidor's Legacy mate is sacrificial and charming. I didn't know so many mates have actual names by which they're known. Please generously contribute to this thread by posting (on the board) different mates...particularly those which have names!
