How to checkmate with a rook

Sort:
olc
When mateing
with the king and
rook you have to do sevral things:
1- use your rook to limit the king
2- get your king in the action
3-pushe the enemy king closer to the eage of the board
4-when the king is on the eage of the board get you king infront of him and use the rook to mate him from the backring

here there is a tricky waiting move you shuld know about.

I hope you found this helpfule

@ olc, it really does though.   The only time you're going to find someone playing out an endgame like this is if you're *incredibly* close to running out of time and he hopes you'll flag first.   Ergo knowing how to get the mate in as few moves as possible (and thus as fast as possible) is incredibly relevent.

Also, black plays terribly in your example, and white would do considerably better if he tried to take the opposition instead of moving directly in-front of the black king.

its not the best example i know i shuld try to make a better one when i have more time

Hello,

for a detailed analysis of the Rook+King versus King endgame, see my latest blog post here:

It's probably one of my favorite ways to produce a checkmate. I had the opportunity to do so just the other day but my opponent decided to let his clock run out instead of resigning or getting checkmated.
