is it possible to mate with just a rook and bishop?

My one pawn is blocked so I was wondering if it's possible to checkmate with a bishop and a rook; those are my only major pieces left. I'm wondering if I should just resign...

fianchetto123

Are you insane? This has no context...

9thEagle

Well, you can mate with a rook and a king, regardless of if you have the bishop. Don't resign.

livluvrok

ok thanks guys

Radical_Drift

Is this what you're looking for? I'm a little confused here...

Next time don't post questions about pending games.

When you do post questions an interactive diagram with the coordinates is very helpful and will elicit more analytical responses IMHO

livluvrok

its hard to explain...but I think the game is moving now but thanks

I'm assuming you're referring to your ongoing game against chroot ?

Even though you're asking for very general advice, you really shouldn't be asking for any kind of help in a current game - it's just bad form !

livluvrok

haha ok sorry didn't know!

You should learn all the checkmate patterns first, before to start to play chess.

I disagree. Many players learn "on the go" instead of studying before playing. It is a game, after all.

bmartin916

It seems like memorizing checkmate patterns without playing is a dull way to get started in the game. Just jump right in ... no one gets punished for losing.

If you r referring to your game against chroot, you did not mention chroot's queen. LOL. Makes a difference.

AlCzervik

If your question is regarding your game against chroot, you are not allowed to ask for advice.

it's over now so stop fussing
