I played chess with computer yesterday and I agreed on draw after my 48th move in the position listed below:

Could I have won this game if I had continued it?

my first belief is that black is better.

Yes, according to Fritz 10 my opponent is -0.48 pawn forward.

ozzie_c_cobblepot

I'm guessing that Fritz always gives negative numbers to indicate black is better?

Yes, the position can be won.  Any position where one side has a pawn is winnable.  But can either side convert this into a win?  Hard to say

Burbon

My Fritz 10 finished this game playing on both sides and I finally got KRKN endgame.

Can a knight and two members of the local militia prevail over a white tower?*

*hint: the tower is alive, made of bricks and out for blood.

Answer: Of course.

Black has winning chances here. White I think is in trouble and is looking to hold a draw. Those 2 pawns on the Q side mean alot.

Two passed pawns, one advanced, and a knight versus a rook? I'd call it a win for black, because one of the pawns should be able to queen in short time.

Rybka says it's a draw though :(

Just with a quick look you made the right choice...

Well with perfect play its a draw. BUT black has an edge and white has a tight rope to walk.

Burbon

Yes, that's right final conclusion idosheepallnight! This endgame can be won by black or draw but the latter can be only achieved if white side is a very good player. Personally I think I would lose here.

I wonder how you came to that conclusion.

Burbon

Probably he did Rybka 3 endgame analysis.

Yes, negative indicates black with an advantage.

The game is hard to say either way although the passed pawns by black are very dangerous and would have to be dealt with perfectly to pull out the draw. If anyone is looking for a draw I would have to say that white is and black could try to play for the win but with plenty of opportunities to mess up. He did say he was playing a computer though so it would be very difficult for white to pull out the win in my opinion.
