Knight vs Knight end game

Hello guys,

I just realised I'm hopeless at this ending. Happened so many times that at the end game, we both have one knight  and equal pawns, but somehow opposing player's knight just makes a mockery out of me and grab all my pawns. I think I'm defensive and try to protect my own pawns with my Knight, while his knight abandons his pawns and comes and attacks my pawns.  Then I was thinking today and I just realised knight can not be forked by another knight, so does this mean in these end games as a general rule you should attack with your knight.

I know every end game is unique and these general principles will have to be used with an idea of the exact position in the game. But can anyone tell me what are some of the basic end game principles I can use in Knight vs Knight games, is is better for my knight to go after other person's pawns or be defensive, Thank you very much. I'm an average player by the way.

To be fair, Knight endgames can be tricky. I know my answer sounds fabricated in some way, but some Knight endings require you to play defensively and others require you to attack their pawns - it really does depend on the position.

My recommendation is to play various Knight drills to familiarize yourself with Knight maneuvering and to possibly work on calculation ability (because endings like this often times utilize a lot of calculation). In general, I am usually looking for ways to restrict their Knight, or exchange it: so I get a winning King and pawn endgame.
