Nothing? Don't study endgames? Endgames are overrated?
Pandolfini's endgame book
If you can get to a section or maybe even two above your current rating range, that will give you a massive edge against your peers.

Thanks, I'll revisit. I think last time I got stuck on a queen-versus-knight endgame early on which was surprisingly hard (against the engine).

I think it’s a terrific book that breaks down endgame concepts into digestible chunks.
I have read it through at least 4 times and will start it again soon.

To clarify, you're talking about Silman, not Pandolfini, right?

Yes, I have the Silman book and it’s good, but there are quite a lot of variations to go through so after the first few chapters I find this quite a hard book to absorb. One I am coming back to after I have improved a bit more.
if you do get the Pandolfini book be sure to go here

Or should I stick to the first 2 parts of Silman's Complete Endgame book?
Stick with Silman for sure.

I agree with IM pfren. It's a good book but badly disfigured by typos and omissions. The editor of that book must have been very sleepy.

There are 37 pages with typos in Pandolfini's Endgame Course. The book is 320 pages long. This amounts to a typo roughly once every 9 pages. All of the typos have been identified, collected and corrected in this errata...

Despite the typos, it's an instructive book. It covers all of the important, fundamental endgame concepts and techniques. The format is one succinct endgame lesson per page (239 lessons to be exact), which makes each lesson quick to read and easy to absorb.

Silman's Complete Endgame Course is also excellent. Because of its narrative format it has an edge in its ability to convey the subtleties of ideas and plans, as well as typically being more time consuming to study, than Pandolfini's book.
However, in terms of overall instructional value, either choice would be a good one.
In terms of physical size, Silman's book is larger, heavier, thus bulkier than Pandolfini's book. So, depending to some extent on how you study and/or how much time you want to devote to any single study session, due to its smaller physical size and its one-lesson-per-page format Pandolfini's book may be a little more convenient for most people.
Finally, note that used copies of Pandolfini's book are typically less inexpensive.

On Bill Wall's Chess website, there is a Pandolfini Endgame Course PGN file, which can be used while studying the book.

Do you recommend Pandolfini's endgame book to a noob? Or is it a waste of time? Or should I stick to the first 2 parts of Silman's Complete Endgame book? Or should I read/check out something else instead? Please advise...
