i was analyzing a game today... in this position as white is it possible to force a mate before 50 move rule comes into play?

SYDNEY482

i dont belive so ?

SamPokemon

no its not

This is a draw game if black plays correctly

Aryan_notfound

yes i agree with @SamPokemon

Dragondom1

king to a light-squared corner without losing a bishop is almost a guaranteed draw

I have been in similar cases. You could make check mate with this. The bishop does make that a lot harder though.

reasonably_happy

If the weaker side's king is for some reason trapped in the corner the same color as the bishop's, then it is possible to force checkmate in most cases. Otherwise no, dead draw.

We should of course try, Who knows that our opponent knows this endgame?
But if our opponents knows the theory then no chance.

i heard somewhere that, immediately after the game has been simplified to rook v bishop,  it depends on the position of the pieces whether it is possible to win with the rook or not

i beat chess.com maximum computer in the rook v bishop endgame drill thing once, don't know if the computer played perfectly, but i beat it and that's what counts

just get the king to the side of the board

then you carefully chase bishop around with rook until you have opportunity to do this weird discovered attack king attack thing where your rook is directly behind your king and you move your king towards the bishop, the king gets put in check and your king gets the bishop

i'd give you an example but it took me two hours to do that drill and i don't want to do it again

MegaPro-123

i thought it was a drill on chess.com, but i can't find it so maybe not

Bringing the king is not a piece of cake, you will take at least 20 moves and what if bishop will stay with the king all time?

An otb tournament game of mine against a FM. Mind the right corners, the "stalemate corner" is a dead draw of course.

I think when there was all three pawns of white, that was an theoretical win i can't clearly remember. And exchanging the pawns was i think not a good plan.

The last move was the best lol🤣🤣

The way I do this is just carefully force the black king into a single row or file and up against a corner using the king and rook to give the black king nowhere to go except for where I want it to go, all the while looking for a chance to capture the bishop. You do know how to force the king over, right?

The guy walks straight in the right (non-Bishop-colored) corner. Voluntarily. Shake hands instantly or what else?
