When to take distance ,diagonal ,or rectangular opposition in king and pawn endgame?

I understand the basic of king and pawn but sometime you should take the distance opposition and sometimes you just run your king toward the critical square. So, I’m not sure that when to just run and when to take opposition.

The aim of the opposition is to get you to reach one of the key squares in front of your pawn. That's the long and short. Your question is too broad/vague. Show some positions you're struggling with, maybe?

Or are you talking about endgames with multiple pawns? Those mostly come down to brute calculation.

Pawn endings are all about calculation.
Opposition and distant opposition are useful for quick calculation, but you can do without these notions if you grasp the more general notion of key squares.
