Good exercize again Marvellosity. Is that also called the Philidor position? The Philidor position we were discussing before involves rook and pawn vs lone rook. I know there is that key Q vs R position which I only vaguely remember. I never know of the ethics in linking to other sites but here is a good general self-training tool for anyone interested.

And here is another specializing in Q v R

I find it frustrating as they don't tell you how to get into the crucial position, but good training.
Escapest: there are quite a few pretty dances in R vs K mates for the quickest mating line that while are completely unnecessary are also rather attractive.
Grobe: it's possible to learn some QvsR technique. I wouldn't say I mastered it, but I think in a game I'd eventually force the win, which definitely wasn't the case a couple of months ago.
With regards to Q vs R, I presume everyone has seen the Philidor position. If not, I include the problem below which isn't quite at the Philidor position. Note that there is more than one good move on move 4, and I include a couple of notes on the move list after you've done the problem.
