Advice to improve at 500 ELO Level

Hello! I am a 500 ELO newbie looking for personalized feedback and tips on my play. There are several trends in my game reviews that I've been confused about, listed here.

1. Nearly all of my games end with 5+ blunders regardless of the outcome of the game. Recently, I've noticed that a good number of these blunders are actually labeled as misses in the engine review.

2. My level of play according to the engine is never consistent, and always depends on the opponent. If I defeat an opponent playing like a 200, then my rating is calculated at 300. If my opponent best me with an accuracy that gives them an estimated rating of 1000, then I'm never far behind at 800 or 900. I want to be able to develop a consistent level of accuracy.

3. The engine evaluation of my matches more often than not contrasts how I felt about my performance during the match. Close games where I felt confident about my level of play usually display a low level of accuracy. Meanwhile, games where I felt like I wasn't playing at my best show little to no mistakes and blunders. I do have a habit of resigning during poor midgames, but this is usually to save the time of a hopeless endgame.

4. Despite having studied the Ruy Lopez and Caro-Kann, I find myself unable to play these openings a lot of the time, especially in the case of the former. Lately, I've been playing mostly against unconventional E4 openings such as Damiano, Busch-Gass and Wayward Queen that completely throw off my tactics. Even during games where I'm able to play my openings, I often blunder trying to account for unconventional variations.

5. My win rate as Black is significantly lower than my win rate as White. I'm left wondering if Caro-Kann isn't the best Black opening for a player of my level, since I had a similar slump a while ago as White while experimenting with King's Gambit.

Thank you for your feedback.

First off, I noticed you've 'tried' to play the Caro Kann against d4... When it is strictly an opening as a reply to e4. - I would suggest just following the opening fundamentals at this stage (develop pieces, attack the centre, don't move a piece twice) rather than 'proper' theory... That will come later.

With out sounding too condescending, the most efficient way to improve at your level above all else is to avoid blundering.

I noticed you have left pieces hanging quite regularly, and quite often miss your opponents hanging pieces.

e.g, you are in check and can take the piece attacking your king for free, but you still opt to move the king away?

before every move you make, Just keep the one question in your mind... 'what am I blundering here by making this move'

Your opponents WILL make fatal mistakes at this level. you will naturally capitalise on them too, so the most effective thing you can do it avoid mistakes yourself!
