almost 700 player looking for advice

With regular work a rating of 1000 is easily achievable. You should solve at least a couple of puzzles every time you log in to the site (your puzzle rating will probably be several hundreds of points higher than your actual rating), that is a good way to improve. Also the lessons are good.
Regarding openings, my impression is that in the rating range 700-1000 there are very few who actually know openings beyond move three or four. You can face almost anything, so you should develop the skill of making good developing moves to whatever position arises. You should have some ideas against 1. e4 and 1. d4, but whatever you choose, you will have to adapt them to your opponent's choices. For instance if you play 1. e4 e5, you can get 2. Nf3, 2. Nc3, 2. f4, 2. d4, 2. Bc4, 2. Qh5 and even others. The same moves can arise also against whatever opening you choose against 1. e4. Hence the most important thing is to learn to make healthy moves in the opening and not blundering pieces (and to avoid the 4-move checkmate).

this is the best thing I've heard all day the answer is if the queen has protection e.g. a bishop will take the king if it takes the queen.

A realistic goal would be 1400+ in rapid by just grinding out wins, with no study. I got to +1300 rapid in a little over a week after I restarted playing rapid (1027 to 1300+ rapid) and I started like 3 months ago, I don't study and do not have any membership. Maybe for those who have a study plan 1600+ or 1700+ in rapid would be more realistic in a year. 1400+ rapid is the 90% btw which in the grand scheme of things is not that great, I play the Bird's eye opening (f4) exclusively as white nowadays and the favored dutch defense as black if my opponent decides to play the queenside pawns. And the Sicilian for kingside pawns as black with like 3 or 2 moves of theory which I have a 50% winrate which is lower than my f pawns games. THE POWER OF THE BIRD
