Auto start off rating should be 800 and not 1200

My major grudge is that 1200 is an artificially high score.  For over 50% of the people that sign up, that's going to be the highest rating they'll ever have.   So I see the automatic start off rating as way way too high.

1200 is a strong club level player.  So I just don't get why it is that high.

It is no longer automatically set at 1200. People are asked to assess their skill level- and then a rating is assigned from 400 for new players to 1600 for advanced.

True 1200 is high

Hmm, I didn't really get that.  I think if you sign in the other way you get assigned a 1200 rating.

DasBurner

doesn't really change much tho. if you start as 2000 and lose your next 10 games you'll end up at like 900 and your rating is no longer inflated

Another site starts everyone off at 1500? Which i find pretty annoying if your between 1500-1700 you end up playing alot of question mark players. They either end up playin 20 book moves an crush you or start with 1 h4. Atleast here you get to pick.

when you sign up, you can select beginner, intermediate, or advanced level. i think beginner puts you at 400, intermediate at 1200, and advanced at 2000.

Doesn't one start you at 1600?

AunTheKnight

What about 1600?

DasBurner

i think advanced is 1600, intermediate is 1200, beginner is 800 new to chess is 400

AunTheKnight

But you can start at 2000...

why 2000? if they don't know how to play chess they play vs a 500  and the 500 is uh 1500?!?! and the 2000? maybe 500
