Hello, I started playing chess on chess.com last 2 weeks and have been doing classes for 3 months. Currently I've been playing rated 30 min chess games and ive gone from 100 to 284 points. My parents really want me to develop it as a skill and I want to too. I'm 10 and when I search up what is the average rating of a 10 yr chess player on chess.com it says 1,200, is this for a 10yr beginner who just started or a 10 yr whos been playing for maybe 2 years or smtn? I'm really worried that I won't get to that level before 5th grade. Also do I have a good progression rate? Will it be easy to get to 1000 rated before 2022? Also when will I be able to play in tourneys?

You are too young to be really worried. Chess is a game. Try to remember that and have fun.

The average rapid chess rating is only 826.

You can see the averages on the leaderboards.

I have never seen averages here grouped by age. Perhaps they have more info on chesskid.com. The USCF reports the top players by age on their site. Their lists are for their tournaments.

Good luck.
