BEST CHESS BOOK FOR BEGINNERS

A friend of mine asked for a book recommendation for a player with modest experience, (200 games, 225 lessons, 4000 puzzles). I am currently reading My System by A. Nimzowtsch.   Is this a good starting point or what would be a better recommendation?  What would you recommend?

It's not clear if you are asking on behalf of yourself or your friend.  In any event, while My System is a very good chess book in general, it is also rather advanced and typically very challenging for the average beginner-novice.  So I consider My System to be more appropriate for players rated minimum1400 (Elo and Chess.com Daily Chess rating).  There are many good book recommendations for beginners through expert level in the following...

"Logical Chess: Move by Move" by Chernev. It explains, in plain language, the idea behind each and every move in each and every game he analyzes. No useless hyper-detailed computer-generated garbage, just plain talk for actual chess players.
