Best free app for learning fundamentals

Are there any free apps out there that teach the fundamentals of the game? I'm sure the chess.com app is great, but i'm not looking to pay fee's.

I've gotten reasonably comfortable with the opening (at this Elo level anyway). I try to focus on controlling the center squares while developing my pieces, to put me in a good position for the middlegame. After the first 7 or 8 moves i'm usually doing ok. Then from this point its anyone's guess as to what way my games will go.

As a priority i really need to improve my checkmate skills, as i'm blundering/missing basic M1 opportunities. I've lost my last two games because of this. Its very frustrating, as i work toward setting up the checkmate, and i sense the mate is there, but i struggle to figure out how to play it properly.

Any recommendations for decent quality FREE apps will be appreciated.

Thanks

Ali

The best app that I would personally recommend is: https://chessmood.com/?r=NationalChessBlasters . This one is run by a lot of good GMs and it really helped me get better because I was stuck and not improving, but their courses were really helpful and I would definitely recommend this site for getting better!
