You might want to clarify...
'Classic'
'Pocket Money'

for wood sets, and since you are in UK, you might check out ChessBazaar (direct from India)....the quality of their products is generally good and the prices (on the pieces - since they are made in India) are reasonable. The boards tend to be overpriced, IMO...

If you look on a site like amazon for Staunton chess set, you will see some good options.
King height is something you will see advertised, in which case you can have an idea of the what you would be getting. A tournament chess set would have a king size of more than 2 inches. For a practice board you will do OK will a practice board with a king height of about an inch, and you should be able to get that for about a tenner.
