Me too - 1900 rapid and 1600 blitz. For some people, it's the other way around.
Big rating discrepancy between blitz and rapid
1450 rapid, 900 blitz.
Might be how long it takes me to move pieces. Some people are better at that.

1550 blitz
1700 Bullet
Your normal.
Thanks for the feedback, all. Just felt like ranting.
Hopefully will improve as I get used to it. Blitz is more addictive but also more rage-inducing.

With more time games, allow for more analysis of course it’s going to change gameplay.
It’s normal

"I've been exclusively a rapid and daily player." ++ Rapid is good, daily is too inhomogeneous.
"Several days ago I thought I'd try my hand at blitz." ++ No good, stick to rapid for progress.
"I've been playing 5|5 games and getting consistently destroyed." ++ That is normal.
"my rapid rating is in the 1200s, yet I find myself struggling against opponents rated in the 600s in blitz." ++ Blitz requires other skills
"Is it normal to have this big of a gap in rating between the different time controls?" ++ Yes
"Please say I'm not alone." ++ It is normal

I think your running into many tricksters playing blitz. You feel pressured to play faster ann mis the traps being set.
You're not alone.
I finally got a 10 minute game. My rating went up 200 points in 2 games. There are some weak players in rapid.

My blitz is kinda close to my Rapid but I think it is because I prefer Blitz. I play mostly 5+0. I just like to play on instinct but to have a little extra time if needed. I struggle to long think. Even in daily I most often play moves and do not think for more then a minute or two.
However when I started Chess a year and a half ago, Blitz was way to hard. So to get good at Blitz you kinda have to play a lot of games and some studies because you want to be able to blitz out the moves. You dont wanna get stuck to early to think.
So I play the same openings over and over and over until I know it better and better and therefore I can play faster and faster.
I find Rapid to be way harder because there you have to think way harder. If you do misstake in Blitz you can preasure on the clock and still win, but do misstakes in Rapid and your opponent can stop and have s long think to punish it, this will make it way harder to come back from.
The lower time your opponent have the more likley he or she is to do a misstake or blunder.

I used to experience the same thing. I suggest playing mostly rapid and not worrying too much about blitz. There will come a time when you will be more prepared and the moves will come naturally with fast time controls. Don't rush it and don't be too concerned about rating.

I was with you all the way up until you said you found rapid harder. Really? Playing rapid to progress in blitz sounds like a contradiction to your proper description of how to get better at blitz. Very strange. I really think you have been listening to the traditionalists and are simply trying to convince yourself of what they say, even though you yourself are an example they are wrong lol.
I play only 30 min rapid, not to get better at blitz cause truthfully it makes me worse at blitz. But what it does do is raise my confidence level and morale because its way way easier. But I still make sure to play just as much blitz so I don't fall too behind in it, because its hard for me to adapt between the different time managements and you need to maintain the exercised skills that are more important in the faster time controls.
When I was at tou level Rapid was easier then Blitz. But now I find Rapid to be harder then Blitz simply because you have to think way more. If I just Blitz out and play on instinct in Rapid it do not work as good as it does in Blitz. So I have to slow down to think more because that is what my opponent is gonna do.
But I am not a fan of discussing with you because you dont really listen and you like to bend what people say or start to insult them.
You castle here after thinking 12 seconds. If you look now can you find a stronger move? This move works in all time controls.

Very normal. Takes longer to calculate in blitz that's why. I can only find mate in 3 above in Rapid

My rapid rating is no less than TWICE my blitz rating. That is because i can't play under time pressure and the competition in the blitz rating pool is much higher compared to rapid rating pool. If i had any bullet rating, it would be half my blitz rating (therefore i never play bullet)

Try 5min blitz instead of 3min. Much less premoving and trying to win on time there.
So up until very recently, I've been exclusively a rapid and daily player. Several days ago I thought I'd try my hand at blitz. I've been playing 5|5 games and getting consistently destroyed. For context, my rapid rating is in the 1200s, yet I find myself struggling against opponents rated in the 600s in blitz. Is it normal to have this big of a gap in rating between the different time controls? Please say I'm not alone.
