It is possible, but difficult.
There are adults who by necessity learn braille, that is harder.
Blindfold Chess - Can an Adult Develop this skill?

After some practice I got pretty good at it. What worked for me was to remind myself of the positions of each piece, each move, and also remind myself of the diagonals for each of the bishops and queens. It was a LOT of work, but I found that if I did that faithfully every move, that by about move 10 or 15, I had a clear picture in my mind and I didn't need to do it for the rest of the game. It was like the process "burned" the board in my mind's eye.
Doing this I eventually was able to play 3 blindfold games at once against lower-rated players.

I found this video to be very interesting. I think it could help. https://youtu.be/gK9eXu7RmdI?si=mR0Bhcr0RT4fRI42

I am an adult who wants to be able to do this as well as I feel that memory lets me down in chess, so knowing what is going on via blindfold play should engage recollection better during a sighted game. That is my theory anyway. So far I am reading pgns and books with theory and pgns to improve the visualisation. No physical board near me, no electronic board. Seems to be going well for learning so far. Glad I am working on board vision.

Of course.
It is easier while you're young and not indoctrinated into the matrix, but it is also possible when you're older (if we assume you are healthy).
The more you're indoctrinated the more time you will need to get back to be one with yourself again. This is the starting point.
Now, it depends only on how quick you are originally but you get there in your best childish time frame.

Yes, it is possible.
I would suggest finding a friend online or in real life ( works better in real life) and trying your best to play blindfolded. When you can't anymore take a break and then try again until you cant visualise it anymore. Of course this will take sometime and effort, but definitely possible if you put in the effort.
I'm in my early 40s and am a year into my chess obsession. I have been doing blind tactics puzzles daily to improve my board vision and calculation. While I am certainly getting better, I am not able to visualize the board in my mind very well at all. I'm curious to hear from players skilled in this area that developed their ability as an adult. What can I expect as far as a range out outcomes from daily practice?
