Can you play too much?

Is there a point where playing a lot becomes counter-productive?

Apart from the moment when your brain is so foggy you keep making blunders (because it is obvious that then it's counter-productive). I've been two ot three days without playing chess because I was hospitalized, and when I started again my rating went up 70 points. So I'm wondering if short breaks might be beneficial, like for sports. So that your brain uncounsciously regsiter stuff during that break or something.

I got really really invested in chess, and since I'm unemployed right now, I tend to play A LOT (like I can do 20-30 games in rapid a day). But I'm wondering if I should force myself to pause a bit more to study or review my games more for example.

Is there a study & review to play ratio that you would recommend? Thank you.

To each his own but for me I like the time Daily play gives me and only like to have 4 or 5 games going on at once. I can focus much better. I know these aren't the stats you asked for I'd rather play fewer games WELL than lots of games so-so.

Personally, I like to play max 3 games per day ♟️

I personally like playing 1 bot game to warm up, (1k elo) then move on to play 5 rapid games.

It depends I think. If you end up on a roll, then there's no real need to stop, but if you lose a couple times in a row, taking a break and/or reflecting on your past games can help clear your mind

no, rot your brain

Idk I've been playing nonstop for the past month and I'm steadily improving. I also lose a lot because I'm busy doing other stuff IRL while I play and I'm at my worst at night when I'm too tired to think. I watch maybe 20 minutes of chess videos a day as of late (but I'm focused on doing IRL stuff so idk if that even helps) and then I play whenever I think I have enough time for rapid, and then I'll give the enemy the win if I'm strapped for time xd I think I really should take a break for a while.

i find myself becoming less aware after ~3 games, but if you find you can't play full games but still want to improve, puzzles and drills are always a good option (make you think about certain situations and don't take a toll on your ELO)

Do you have chess experience? Do you know how to mate with a room and king?

Try no spending too much time on chess.  It is just a game.  Good time waster, that is for sure.
