Can't win as black

Hey guys, I am a beginner chess player, and currently I am 9-7 as white and 1-13 as black in rapid. It annoys me a little that I can't win as black, does anyone have an idea why this happens?

you can improve yourself by watching live games...

i have won 18 outta 24 games as black , it's easy to play as black, keep playing dull until opponent makes dumb mistake or attack like its your last day on earth

I haven't examined you games, but early in my OTB chess career I had a great record as White and an awful record as Black.  I learned that you can NOT count of defense alone to give you an equal middlegame.  Even though you're usually on the defensive, you need to make threatening, developing moves early in the game as much as possible and coordinate them so they will lead to a plan of attack in the middlegame. if you're not sure, try to point as many pieces as you can at or toward your opponent's king.

the short answer is white goes first.

a better explanation would be, if there was one such 'perfect' sequence of moves, and black does the same, the board would be completely symmetrical, however, since white went first, white has the right to move and black would lose.

intermediate reasons between white moving first, and white winning, is because white has positioning/control/space, because of having the first move.

At lower rating levels I wouldn't think that the winning percentages would be too much different between White and Black

Statically, white has a higher chance of winning than Black.

Chess is a draw, but the path to the draw is wider for white and narrower for black.

Exactly.

Black must walk a more difficult path than White, but both paths lead to a draw with correct play.

Nearly all of my really interesting games were with the Black pieces. I have somewhat better statistics with the White pieces, but the games themselves tend to be routine and uninteresting.

I’m a beginner @ 800 elo. Played nearly 400 games. My stats as black is 48% (51% as white).

Not sure how others feel about this but I’ve been sticking with the French Defense only. Now the more advanced players can probably kick my butt because of it but I’ve been often advised to stick with one opening until I’m ready to ‘spread my wings’ once I have more experience.

Good luck.
