Check instead of checkmate

Am I reading this wrong? Beginner here: White’s king is on a1 and black has a pawn that takes from c3xb2 now threatening white’s king. b1 is open allowing the king to move out, yes? That would be check, not checkmate... but the lesson in the app says it’s checkmate.

Check to see if black has other pieces covering b1 and a2.

Ah you’re right! Thank you. There’s a knight on d2 and a rook on a8 all pointing at a1. White pawn on a2 pins the king too.

Good board vision takes a while to develop, but keep at it and you'll get better.  Good luck!
