Don’t play too many games in a row

Tip, for everybody, especially myself:

Do not play more than two or three games in a row, if you want to play good. You will get tired and play bad. You will not play your best and your brain will be too tired to really even learn.

So keep it at a couple games a day, the rest is for studying etc.

Unless you are some superhuman who does not get tired, in which case, play as many games as you want to.

I try not to play more than 2 or 3 30 minute rapid games in one day. Playing more leads to tilt and a general decline in playing.

Winning several games in a row does not hurt.
However, whenever you lose a game, you should stop playing and analyse it first/

This is personal. My brain has to work even when I win. It does get tired. After a couple games I do not play as well anymore and will more likely lose.

I do not know about you, but for me it is that way.

TheMsquare

Play as many games in a row!

Simultaneously if you can handle it!

Fun stats because Lichess gives me the stats when playing there. Longest gaming in Rapid for me is 11 hours 3 minutes, that is 64 Rapid games in row 😅

starting rating 2029 ended on 1977 so not to bad considering the time played.

uhhhh well for me i know that after 3 games i get addicted to winning and eventually tire out from all the games.

if you're planning to play tons of games in a row, stay hydrated ^^

i think it depends on whether or not you have high mental stamina.

i can do very strongly a few games, playing with near-perfect accuracy (as i'm sure you all do), but after like 2 games i just move whatever for the heck of it.

I have a habit of having a pint of beer per game. Probably does not help.

Yeah this works for me too… if I play too many games in a row, I just play like trash.

Maybe we have a pint per game marathon, be fun to see the tilt after the first few. My missus doesn't get my chess addiction, it's basically a party with 64 squares.

I’m up for it some random saturday.

For me it’s like 5-6 games then I start to drop in performance, but on some days I can beat players with no trouble at all

I agree. After each game, you should take a break for analysis, for highlighting the main mistakes and independently working out winning variants.

I think one of you guys put it well.. Play as many games as you can but when you lose, analyse why you lost. You should really analyse all your games, but hey i dn't think we are all professional players. But definitely stop and analyse why you lost your game and learn from that situation as a minimum.

This is a great reminder to all players. Humans are not chess engines and require rest.

Yeah, I agree. When I was too tired, I didn't even notice my opponent's hanging queen to my pawn. It was for three moves in a row, not me, not my opponent didn't notice it. And I am not a beginner, I am 2000+ in Rapid, but I don't play very good. Check out my games against Kamvel for this, it wasn't a long time ago

Playing multiple games in a row can lead to fatigue, reducing your focus and concentration. Mistakes are more likely when you're mentally tired.

I agree. If you play too many games you might suffer from "tilt" and depress your rating. Last month I played four games in a day, losing the two in the morning, drawing one in the afternoon and finally winning one in the evening. My overall rating was 11 or 12 points down at the day's end. After that I have limited myself to one or at most two games per day.
