False hope in chess game

I though chess is the game that the more I played, the more I am getting better. But it is working in the opposite. My life suffered from what I called "false hope" is when I am lose, defeated or failed, I would think very positively that I would win or success next round. But it doesn't. And it makes me depressed. I lost 10+ games and rating goes down. So I started to blame myself for my own defeated and it's hurt me so bad.. Real bad. So I cried alone and try to ease my mind and think that.. The only remedy I have right now is to stop hoping for winning without preparation and training. For example: most of 400-500 players love to use cheesy early Queen assault with over watched Bishop or Knight. My weakness is the lack of opening knowledge to counter these cheesing players. One mistake I made is that I practice in Puzzles mode. It's good to learn a move in advantage position. But what I've experience is that the game is rarely happens in my odds. Many hardered 500 players rarely fall for mate in 1 mistakes. Thus my false hope of winning is the same as advantages position in Puzzle mode. What should I focus is to get better in opening tactics. Dealing with aggressive and impatient players who rush their knight and queen on the board with defense and trap tactics. I also noticed that they rarely touched pawns and rooks making these cheesy queen players vulnerable to end game (Assuming that I'm surviving their queen onslaught). Or I will learn gambits because I am equally impatience player who also want to win fast. This is what I need to prepare in order to deal with my defeat. I think I need to stop playing Chess.com for a while. I will practice with my dad who is a chess competitor with a real board. I will learn opening to counter such a cheesy queen players and I will put more realistic view of chess Improvement.

Hey there!

You’re frustrated I see, and I sympathize. You’re at a level where a few bits of knowledge, a tweaking of a thought process can help you heaps! Early queen sorties are easily dispelled without any advanced opening knowledge- utilize opening principles effectively will do the trick! Puzzles train your brain to spot tactical shots in positions more reliably, but if you’re down on the count early and often there’s little use for them. So it sounds like you need to pump up your opening confidence so you can reliably get into middle games and THEN those tactical exercises will come into better use for you. Don’t lose heart, forget all the losses and ignore the numbers next to your username- let’s just focus you on fixing your weaknesses one at a time and start pulling yourself back up- the wins and rating gains will follow.

Cheers to fun chess mate!
