Game keeps slipping through my fingers

I feel like I have the power to win 90% of the games. I've also been having a massive chess drop lately (probably due to taking a break from chess) I do good in the opening and keep the advantage, but all of the sudden I blunder something. What should I do?

Puzzles, take more time to blunder check. If you notice trends in your blunders that might help you pinpoint specific areas of chess to work on in terms of concepts.

Always check your intended move is no blunder before you play it.
Do not lower your guard when you are winning.
Do not get carried away, stay calm and focussed.

Don't make a move too fast, look at a board and think about your move, trust me I had the same problem.

Before making a move, perform a quick blunder check. Identify unprotected pieces, potential threats from your opponent and tactical vulnerabilities.

Hi! My name is Lauren Goodkind and I’ve been a respected chess coach and chess book author based in California for over 10 years who has helped many beginners out.

  1. Here are some general tips to help you: Before each move, I highly encourage you ask questions before every move such as, “If I move here, is it safe?”, “Can I safely capture a piece?”, and more. Also consider all checks and captures on your side and also your opponent’s side. Be VERY CONSISTENT with this. Your job is to NEVER make any silly mistakes in any game! If you continue to make silly mistakes, you will have a very hard time getting your rating up.

2) I offer a Twitch channel for beginners so they can get better in chess. Send me a game and I’ll analyze your games for free on my Twitch livestream. I’ll be happy to give you a Twitch chess lesson for free!

I livestream every Monday at 9:30pm PST, Wednesday at 9:30pm PST

I also offer a free beginner’s free eBook on my website, in case you are interested.

3) Beginners needs to learn basic tactics such as the fork, discovered attack, pin, and more. I offer interactive puzzles on my website:

If you are serious about chess, I highly recommend you hiring a chess coach to help you.

  1. Two chess books for beginnners that are beneficial are “50 Poison Pieces” and “Queen For A Day: The Girl’s Guide to Chess Mastery”.

I hope that this helps!
