Hello,

I have two related questions:

1. If my king is in check, may another piece help him get out by capturing or blocking?

2. Must the king always move away when he is in check?

Thank you for your help!

Yes!

But you need a basic book  . . .

This is the best book for that . . . And it's low price pocket book . . .

When in check you have 3 options:

  • Move the king out of check
  • Put a piece between your king and the checking piece; with checks by a knight, this is not possible
  • Take the checking piece with one of your pieces

If you can't do one of those things, it is checkmate.
