Focus on the priciples of openings. Try to keep your pawns connected, move all your minor peices once and castle as soon as its safe to do so.
After that you are in the middle game. Try to get to the middle game consistantly without losing more pieces than your opponent.
One you can do that, learning to recognize middle game tactics will take you further. That comes with experience and puzzles.

I still feel like I'm not really improving/ getting worse? Any of you have advice on my learning technique or are my standards just too high? I don't want to plateau at 650...
