Hard Stuck In 1400! Please Help!

I learnt about basic tactics, do puzzles every day, learn about a few openings. But I always wonder is there a comprehensive guide on what should I improve next, or what resource should I use to improve my tactics or where to find opening theories. Thank you very much!

Stop learning the opening (completely) and start learning the middlegame. You need to know what to do with your pieces. Try to make them happy. So, move that rook to an open file. 

Also, in my teaching experience, I see a lot of inefficient moves around your level. Don't play moves like h3 or a6 to prevent a pin, unless you would lose material without it. Those moves waste a move that could have gone into one of your pieces.

And the easiest tips for the opening: play for d4-e4 with white, and as black do everything you can to prevent white from getting that. No need to know much more than that really.

I got to 1400 on tactics, principled play, and getting basic blunders under control. Then I bought Amateur's Mind by Jeremy Silman which is helping me understand planning and strategy, and progress to 1500. I recommend it. You can preview chapters on Amazon to see if it appeals.

I just began playing in the last month, how long does it take to get to 1400,how many games ?

I began at 500 and am at 803 now, is there a way to earn more than +/- 10 points on average per game you win ?

if you are consistent at winning against people of equal rating, you'll naturally go up the rating ladder.

@mikeoxlong +1. anything that unifies moves is better than random shuffling, even a crappy plan.

Take a look at your last 20-30 games. Note down your recurring mistakes. Be aware of them and give your 100% for avoiding them in upcoming games.
