Welcome to chess.com
You can certainly learn and improve, despite being 17. Many people begin much older than this and still become very strong chess players. Mikhail Tal is a famous chess player with a 2700+ peak rating and he reached his peak rating at age 44!
Chess is like pretty much anything else in that you can usually improve with time and effort invested into it. In the case of chess, it can be a time-consuming hobby because there are so many things to learn and refine, but this is part of the enjoyment.

Hello, I am very new to playing chess, the first time I played a chess game was yesterday, I used the lessons from chess.com to understand how the game works, I am at 500 elo now (I played 6 hours every day im addicted lol) What should be the next thing that I should learn, and what should be the goals for the future. My goal is to get to a level where I can play in some local tournaments and be competetive, winning is not my goal for now. Is that even possible for me to learn to play chess at that level since i am currently 17.
