How can I get better at chess?

Are you bad at making good moves or bad at not making bad moves? I'm also struggling from the latter, but have made many brilliant moves.

Most of my moves are good or inaccurate but I've also made some brilliant moves. I mainly just don't know what to do in midgame and end up just trading and blundering pieces

Check what stockfish says is the best move after the game if you ever mess up in the midgame, try to analyze it and see why it thinks it's the best move

You can try joining a club. This one might be a good fit https://www.chess.com/forum/view/clubs-and-teams/our-chessclub-is-hiring

One simple piece of advice is to try to just develop your pieces and castle before trying to trade pieces and attack.
If you have the choice between taking a pawn with your knight or developing and castling, choose to develop and castle.

I'd rather to say: Develop is the key of winning (my elo is not so high but im saying my chess teacher's words). Nevermind; if you develop so fast you can win more easy but while developing, not be so fast because your valuable pieces could be captured. Not play with pawns so much. And while thinking of good moves, think about your enemy's best moves. That's what I know. Good Games!

slightly off topic, but slightly diferent problem.
How do you play better players when you first start? 40 yrs ago, when I last touched a board I was reasonable and I joined here 3 days ago. Whilst I have played some very tasty players, the games i have lost so far have been from me being a cretin and not concentrating, and mostly I am a little more advanced than the players I am being pitched against.

If you are using a real internet browser (instead of the mobile app) you can adjust your Seek settings in your profile... say, to +200 and -25

reading through this, there are a few comments that suggest that development is key, which is absolutely true, but also suggesting that pawns are not as important. Possession of the centre of the board, or the area you plan to attack in, with strong, supported pawns is the absolute essential of beginners chess. You can sometimes put yourself in a stategic winning position early in the game, by either doubling your opponents pawns, or by taking strong possession of the fifth rank. You can also negate the attacking power of opposition pieces, especially bishops, and stop the deployment of knights. I would suggest planning a pawn end game win right from the start as being a strong strategy for any beginner
I'm a 700 rated chess player in rapid. I've been stuck here for some time. I really want to improve at the game but don't really know where to start. Does anyone have advice for me and others like me?
