How difficult is it to reach 1400?

It will certainly take some work and effort, but you can hit 1400 with relative ease. It will most likely take you 7-10 months.

Getting there and establishing yourself are two different outcomes.
I didn’t experience any issues getting to 1400 but struggled to established myself and actually tilted twice back to 1300.
It was very deflating but I was able to find a coach to put a training routine and repertoire together for immediate results and long term gains.
If you want free help, just DM me. I’ve help others get from 800 to 1400.

It is different for everyone. I was stuck at 800 level for six years, but I took a break and when I came back, 1400 came and went like the months of the year.
If you are at least as talented for chess as I am, and you probably are since I am an anti talent for chess, you will reach 1400 rapid in less than a year. 1400 blitz maps to 1600 rapid, so you will need more time to reach it than 1400 rapid. What you described here when you said that you went from 990 to 1100 is either a rating oscilation, or finally your improvement in chess translated to your rating. You won't just continue gaining 100 points every couple of days.

Stuck at 800 for 6 years and now you are 2300? Congratulations! Most people would give up thinking that chess is not for them. Do you have a FIDE rating as well? According to https://www.chessratingcomparison.com/Graphs 2300 on chess.com maps to 2000 FIDE.

You are improving at a steady pace, you will reach much higher ratings than 1400.

Thanks for the encouragement. My short term goal is 1500 by end of this year.
Long term goals are to play OTB and register a handful of games.
Ive also taken on a few project to help other get from 500 to 1200. It keeps me engaged by indirectly learning , improve my communication skills and ultimately it’s rewarding to see others immediately improve.
On top of coaching, I train with strong sparring partners.
The master plan is to steadily improve, learn and not burn out.
If you want, we can play training games together and analyze the games afterward. We'll get you to 1400 within no time! Feel free to send me a message, I have Discord!
