Just now i watched some tutorials on how to play chess and it looks like fun. like a ancient strategy game before videogames were a thing. So i wanted to go online and play some matches but im not sure if i get crushed immediatly. So i wanted to know if playing online as a total beginner is a good choice or if i should play against an ai or something?

There are computer bots here that are a little more gentle than some of the members.

You can pick from the available choices.

Online against humans, or computer apps, bots, etc. - either way is fine.  To begin with, just be sure to choose opponents which are roughly at the same playing strength as you.

As for starting out learning the game, you might begin by checking out.....lots of helpful instruction here...

I wouldn't recommend playing against the AI. You can't really program an AI to overlook things and make mistakes so they just derp out at certain intervals. They don't play like humans. Besides losing is part of the game and usually it's more beneficial in the long run than winning, provided you learn something.
