How long does it normally take for a player to go from elo 1800 to elo 2200?

I ask this question as I just turned slightly above 1800 elo in Rapid rating recently. I'm wondering what are the most helpful chess books I should read at this stage and what is the minimum number of games I should play before I reach elo 2200? Say I play one game every day, then that amounts to how long to go from elo 1800 to elo 2200?

You have been a member for more than 10 years.

Your rating progression has not been regular.

I think there is no typical path nor minimum number of games.

Why don't you list 3 chess books you have read in the last year and found useful?  Others might then be able to make suggestions.

"How long does it normally take for a player to go from elo 1800 to elo 2200?"
++ This guy did it in 6 months

"what are the most helpful chess books I should read at this stage"
++ Study, not read, an endgame book. Either Fundamental Chess Endings Müller & Lamprecht or Dvoretsky's Endgame Manual Dvoretsky

"what is the minimum number of games I should play before I reach elo 2200?"
++ The above guy did it with 0 - 12 games / month. The essence is not how many games you play, but rather analysis of your lost games and what you learn from your mistakes.

"one game every day, then that amounts to how long to go from elo 1800 to elo 2200?"
++ 2200 - 1800 = 300. If you play stronger opponents and gain +10 per game, then you could achieve that in 30 games, so in one month if you win them all. However, you will also lose and draw games. That is why it is very fast to get there in 6 months.

That's very enlightening and helpful. Thanks a lot!

The great majority of players never reach 2200. Or even 1800.

Enlightening indeed mehSo much for credibility.
Anyway, I agree with the above and would like to add more adamantly that people need to completely forget about their elo ego and focus on creating great chess.

Why is this posted in "Beginner" forum?

FavelaSwagKing
Excellent question for the beginner forum. You may never get to 2200 no matter how hard you try because 2200 is so high only a fraction of a percent of people can reach it

2200 - 1800 = 400, so 40 straight wins against progressively stronger opponents; very daunting task

Depends. there are lots of factors. Id say a guess of 1.5-3 years, at least for me.

Woah after looking at the chart you’ve gained a lot of rating in a single day, did you play a lot of games?

"Real FIDE elo very much harder might take you 20 years."
++ There are 15 year old grandmasters. So they got from 0 to 2500+ in less than 15 years.

No, that is not necessary.
This guy for example:
https://ratings.fide.com/profile/240990/chart
He went from 1800 in January 2015 to 2200 in June 2017, that is 2.5 years.
It is no matter of money, it is a matter of time and dedication.

For GM you have to start early.
The original poster asked about 1800 to 2200.
I used to be FIDE 2200+. I am on the downhill road.
It is time, dedication, doing the right thing, and not doing the wrong things.

@18
"Don't you know how strong is 2200 fide?"
++ I know. I was 2200+ FIDE. I have defeated several 2400+ FIDE IMs in my time.
@19
"How many national and international open tournaments did you play in reaching 2200 fide."
++ Times were different then. I played 2 international open tournaments of 9 rounds and got my 2200+ FIDE rating. At that time you only got a FIDE rating if it was above 2200. I had played maybe 30 national and international tournaments before. It is a hobby. It costs some money, but not as much as tennis or golf.

ren97ren

What? He has played lots of games and has still maintained that rating??

@22

Looks like you do not know what you are talking about.
I am too old, too slow now.

Update: Now my rating is above 1900. Three fourth of the journey ahead. Wish me luck!
