I don't understand Chess

I tend to know what I am doing, but this has also taken me years of chess understanding; chess takes lots of study, practice and experience to learn. Don't worry about it too much for now; chess learning is a process for everyone. Even titled chess players were once beginners too.
If you don't know what to do at all, then learn the rules and basic strategies:

followed by learning some fundamentals such as chess opening principles

"Do you go with a plan in mind?"
++ The plan is to avoid mistakes and prey on any mistake by the opponent, whatever that is.
"do you all know all the openings?" ++ No, that is neither necessary, nor useful.
"how to play this game with out all that knowledge" ++ By thinking.
"i don't know what I'm doing"
++ Study Chess Fundamentals - Capablanca. It contains all you need to know in 60 pages.
