Do you think learning to play chess is hard in any way?
Learning how the pieces move is easy. Learning to play the game well is challenging.....but that is the beauty of the game....if you prefer to play a game that requires little in the way of thinking and/or mental effort, I might suggest checkers....

Chess is as hard as you make it. If you play casually, it’s just a fun game. If you aim to improve, it becomes a serious challenge that requires patience and discipline.

If you can learn not to blunder and also capture unprotected pieces you can have a score of 1100. You don't need to memorize openings etc. 1100 is better than 85% of the millions of people who play on chess.com. With that said, I am not really sure that score even scratches the surface to get to "real" tactical chess. To get to a score like 1300 and higher I would say yeah its hard. I have played 10,000 games and can't get to 1200.

Then you dont actually try to improve.
You have to review your games, especially the ones you lost, so you know what errors you made, and can avoid them in future. Of course many won games also have errors you may want to detect and learn from.
Even better if you could join a local chess club, or even better if you can get a chess teacher. Then other chess players can help you improve. They may have a much better understanding of what your shortcomings are.
