Is it worth paying subscription?

It's nothing to go through 100-200 puzzles in a day. I would take the platinum, at a minimum for the puzzles and the game report.

The lessons are really great, but I don't think I have done 5 lessons in a week since I signed up

I guess it depends on what you want to get out of it. The single most useful feature for me is the game analysis and reports after playing the computer, or just from a given position. I also do a lot of puzzles and probably watch a few vids per week.

Anyway, there’s the trial membership, so you can see for yourself what it’s likewink.png.

(Oops, system only showed the last message, there was a whole thread already...)

See if you can keep up reaching the daily limits. When you do it for consecutive days/ weeks I would definitely get premium, because it shows that you're determined. When you know that, it's really worth it.

hello. my chat is off during game-time. how can i switch it on? I activated my account tho

The game chat only works when you finished 10 games and your opponent has too.

For me the "Key Moments" feature is what makes premium worth it; Basic only lets you do that once per day.  I initially signed up to get more than 5 puzzles a day, but I find that the Key Moments is sort of like puzzles, both requiring you to find the best move.  Anyway none of this good stuff has caused me to improve, going on years now.  But it's fun.  Another good thing about Key Moments that it turns the non-celebratory feeling of losing a game into some positive energy as you fix the mistakes.  Somewhat off the point, I like supporting the chess.com business as I see it as a good thing, facilitating a way for people from all over the world and of diverse backgrounds to just play a game together.  Not bad, these days.

Subscription isn't necessary. You may have to consider other options. Chess always were free. It's just sad chess.com policy.

The gold is perfect for me, I just hope I get enough time to play it! Agree that not sure I'll improve but it's fun comment lol.

Sad that people have to work for free and that server upkeep should be free and everything in life should be free. The game is free, you can play for free. If you want more features paying is an option. The game IS free to play.

Sad that people ask money for books and chess sets too right? The game should be free!

Luckily, it’s very affordable. For the price of a pint of beer a month you get an awesome set of tools. I used to buy chess computers and later chess programs, which were easily a couple of hundred bucks each, and that in the times before online gaming, sharing, clubs etc. Compared to, say, a chess magazine, the Gold plan is cheaper than my local magazine.

Considering that they have a team of 200-something people fulltime working on this, of which 80 or so are developers... Quite some mouths to feed. But then again, even for free, it’s much better than most other free chess apps around.

Just wondering... if I get a gold membership and have 5 puzzle battles per day... do you know, does that count even if your opponent rematches you? So if I want to play a 10 puzzle battle match again a friend, can I do it (if they rematch me after 5 games)?

Misteribel

I don’t know, I’d assume that the system prevents that from happening. I have diamond, so I can’t really check it.

Roasted_Rooster

No worries. Thank you!

I'm currently debating the same question with myself. I noticed that I spend more time at chess each day than I spend watching Netflix. My Netflix is $8.99/month and a diamond level here (when paid annually) $8.25/month. So the cost per hour used is less than Netflix. I'm gold now, but I'm considering going to diamond.

If you do loads of the lessons then it's worth it. If you have a month or so where you spend a lot of time on that it's definitely worth it, if you only use the other tools then Diamond isn't needed.

It's definitely worth it! I'm on a Platinum plan and I love the comfort of having unlimited lessons and puzzles. There is a lot of content/ lessons to digest and the puzzles are endless! It's a great resource to develop your chess!

You don't have unlimited lessons with a platinum membership though

Ah true, my mistake..to be fair I do more puzzles than I do lessons so no biggy. The pros are still great 😊
