I've never played an endgame.

Hi! My name is Lauren Goodkind and I’m a chess coach based and chess book author based in California: www.ChessByLauren.com
Endgames can happen at any level. Regardless, I'll give you two tips on how to play the endgame in case you get there:
1) Get your king into the action. Yes, the king is a fighting piece.
2) Rook like to be behind pawns.
I hope that this helps!
To get to the end game, you get past the middle game. Endgame is when king and remaining pawns are necessary to activate because the 1 or 2 pieces that remain can't easily force a mate on their own. If you win any games....you can reach endgame. Once you get a piece advantage......trade pieces for equal pieces. Even with a 1 pawn advantage.....if you can trade away pieces, that advantage can be winning difference in well played endgame. With every piece off the board, an advantage ......positional, or material......grows.
