Just sharing a "study" habit I have that I've never seen mentioned here...

I have seen a thousand different posts on how to improve, Chess really is like an ocean we'll never get to the bottom of and I love it. I do the chess lessons on this site, puzzles, analyze my games and watch videos(GothamChess & Agadmator are my favorites) but I also do something that I feel has helped me think like a chess player. Generally my free time to spend on chess is at night before bed for an hour or two after a long day at work, sometimes after a lesson/video and a couple puzzles(10-15) I don't feel up to the challenge of playing my usual 2 or 3 matches... On those occasions I instead watch top player games on this site and follow along in real time thinking what I would do and compare it to what they do and their thought behind those moves. Bullet games are too messy and all about not getting flagged so I only watch 5min, 10min, sometimes 3min games, it's also entertaining to watch the drama and the crazy fun positions. Disclaimer: This is not advice from some chess teacher or anything, I'm just another random borderline intermediate player like most others on this website😜. Just wanted to share a thought with you all...

A lot of people do that and try to actually guess the moves. You just make the move. They actually keep track of how you do.

Wow I never knew that! I just tried right now but I'm not able to move the pieces on my tablet, must be only on the website and not on the app. I will try that some time, thanks

The "guessing game" is fun to do with GM games or other strong players. You can also "compete" against others guessing to see if you can out-score them in your predictions. Best part if not the learning...you don't even risk rating for the game grin.png

I haven't done that in a while, but it is a casual way to do something chess without actually playing a game. I sometimes play the chess.com guessing game when I'm not really up for a game myself, but still feel like something similar wink.png

Hi! My name is Lauren Goodkind and I’m a chess coach and chess YouTuber based in California:

I have some ideas to get better:

1) Analyze your games with a much stronger player.

2) Study tactics

3) Before moving, tell yourself to consider all checks, captures, and threats.

4) Hire a chess coach

  I hope that this helps!

Awesome value that you are sharing Daniel!

The voting thing is kinda creepy to be on the end of as it shows up in your chat. Like, you are suddenly made aware someone has been watching your game.
