So far I’ve only played bots. How “good” should I be verse bots before playing people? What are all the time options and how do they work? What options should I start with? Do I start with a zero rating?

I looked for frequently asked questions before posting this but could not find helpful info..

BTW, It’s been fun so far.

Hi

Hi ScottB-1,
One thing I should tell you about the bots on chess.com is that they are often worse than humans at that rating. For instance, I have beaten Li, the 2000 rated bot, but I’m stuck at an ELO of 600 to 700. Practice makes perfect. Beat as many bots as you can. Review your games as much as you can. For the time options, the standard time for RAPID is 10 min. BLITZ 3 to 5 min. BULLET 1 to 2 min. Don’t worry about playing blitz or bullet. Play long games. They are better to play when you are rated lower. You don’t necessarily stay at 0 ELO, that initial score is based on the first few opponents you win/lose to. Please message me if you have any questions. As always, thanks! :)

Thanks Skull3moji! Good to know the BOTS are a bit overrated! I think I'll start at a longer time for my first game as I've never played a timed game. Seems a bit intimidating...

This is the way. You need to think. And to think, you need time.

You don't have to "beat bots" before playing humans.

Thanks Fr3nchtoastCrunch and ChessMasteryOfficial! I’ll give a game a try. Using the longer time for my first game.
