Keeping Faith

I keep thinking how bad I am and that I need to improve my skills however I keep coming back to this; everything we do in life takes time to learn if you’re doing it properly and you just need to keep faith that you’re improving step by step. I know it might not seem like you’re getting anywhere but you are. I look back at how I used to play and just laugh now at how stupid I was to think what I was doing was actaully good in any way. I should’ve known there was a problem when I wasn’t winning any games.

So if you’re in doubt, don’t be because there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Your tunnel might ba a bit longer but you’ll get there in the end. Keep up the faith.

This is truer than true.

Thanks Potato! happy.png It sure is but a lot of people just get mad because they can't see themselves improving.

VernalFire

My view on this, be satisfied with what you can handle, as we are all humans, and we have only the ability as to what our brain can do, we can certainly go out and try harder each game, and we should not retreat if we find that we are struggling with a game, as we can only do as to what our brain can handle, but in saying that, we keep trying to improve, we can only progress so far, so my viewpoint is to enjoy the game regardless of who wins, after all it is only a game.

I am in total agreement with you @VernalFire. Games are indeed designed to have fun and also challenge the brain; certainly nothing to be having ‘punching matches’ over or getting  so angry you decide you hate the world.

Yeah,  just gotta keep on keeping on.  I was 800 rating when I joined this site but as I play more and more games that became 1000 then 1300 then 1500 and onwards and upwards.  Gotta do the time to make the gains N thats how it should b!!

Agreed; good on you!

m_connors

Well said Potato and Vernal Fire. There is also something else you need along with faith.

Patience! You need patience to do the practice and to take the time to improve. To accept your defeats and to wait for improvement. Unfortunately, throughout my lifetime I have found my biggest flaw is a lack of patience. It's a weakness I'm very aware of and continue to try to improve upon, but that takes patience . . . so it's a bit of a vicious circle!

CatsWithWings00

Indeed m_connors. I have patience with certain things; chess being one. 😁

@saraheaw - I never win playing against the computer. Lol! It is a pain losing but if you’re having fun and learning then it’s all worth it.

VernalFire

I will try to put this as nicest as I can, I am mentioning this for "saraheaw", we all have to remember we are playing a game, whether we lose or win, it is a game, any game is mean't to be enjoyed, regardless of the outcome of the game, which brings us to what is the next stage, we can only try, and we learn from our mistakes. Thats all I have to say about it

CatsWithWings00

@VernalFire - And I am in complete agreement with you.

I totally suck at chess yall... especially against bots (playing against bots suck because they always know the best moves all the time and there is no fooling them) but yeah I agree with you
amwalker3

The trouble with playing chess "just for fun" is that winning is much more fun than losing.

I'm not that great either and can never seem to beat the bots so I know how you feel.

yeah, alright. This is why this section of the forum sucks.

You are smurfing and I've seen you denigrating beginners. In other games that is despised. You didn't get 1600 or whatever you said in 2 weeks, because I have caned everything I've basically ever done and not come anywhere even close to that. You are talking complete rubbish.

Smurf account

Incorrect,  i'm new to chess and that's why I started at 800 rating,  I said "New to chess" and would have been better off saying I was "advanced" or maybe even "expert".

I'm not that type of girl

Are you f***.

No swearing or i will report you. Please keep it clean

CatsWithWings00

And by the way, you two are being quite childish arguing over such matters. Chess is a game, that's all. Nothing to fight over. If you want to fight, do it in your own time and don't disturb the rest of us.
