learning chess notation

Hey does anyone know a good site or if chess.com offers a way to learn the board easier? Like where you can find the board without the numbers and be able to find what square it is?

A to H, Left to Right. 1 to 8, Bottom to Top.

From White's perspective. Reverse that for Black's perspective.

Thank you, but I’m wondering if there are puzzles that help you learn it faster

Under settings "board and pieces" you can switch coordinates off.

But the best way to learn the squares is, you play a couple of slow games and write the moves down.

Sooner or later you will even know what color each square is or on which diagonal it is.

Very helpful information, thank you @newbie4711

There is a trainer on chess.com called the "vision trainer" or something like that.

It throws coordinates at you and you have to click the right square and try to get as many as you can correct within a time limit.

If I remember correct, you can toggle notation on/off for the board so if you want your board without notation it should be possible.

The vision trainer can be found in the menu under ...More -> Vision if you are using a pc. For mobile apps I am not sure.

That vision game is fun.

Before that, if you are very unfamiliar with the notation, the best way to improve is:

- find a game (like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opera_Game)

- find a chessboard (real or virtual, it does not matter)

- play the moves.

Writing the moves down in an OTB game will help the best, you can write it down in an online classical game as well if you want (just the notation though) if you want to take it to a next level try playing chess.com's feature Vision! Make sure you practice it for accuracy though, not speed.

If you want to practice, the Magnus Trainer app has minigames for stuff like this.

Little airplanes start flying toward the board along with a location (B4, F8, or whatever) and you have to click on the right square for the planes to land.
